Happy New Year!
Wow…here we are at the beginning of 2018 and all the new things this year might bring! We have our pop up restaurant planning meeting booked and with a secret festival in the diary plus of course a potential trip up to the House of Lords in the offing it’s already starting to feel exciting! We shall keep you posted with all of our plans, dates, produce and new stuff on here but please do leave your email address too if you would like to receive our newsletters.
In the meantime our new farm shop with the awesome Horsebox Coffee, homemade cake and delicious things is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9-3pm each day. We have seats inside and out, tying posts and a water bowl for the doggies, a tethering area for horses and plenty of leaning places for those bicycles.
Planes, trains, automobiles and feet also welcome.!
Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Chilterns, Blue Tin Farm Shop supplies our customers with a selection of truly local produce alongside our fabulous free range meat.
Opened in Dec 2009 by Paul Clerehugh of The Crooked Billet, Stoke Row fame with a ‘do’ attended by 300 or so people, we have just reopened our brand new farm shop building with another do and an honorary 2nd official opening from Mr Clerehugh! With an ever expanding number of regular customers from near and not so near, word of mouth is still the best form of advertising with provenance now playing an increasingly important part in peoples food choices.
As well as our free range rare breed pork and Dexter beef, our little shop is as well known for its range of delicious sausages from the opinion splitting pork & stilton to the best selling originals and chipolatas; smoked and unsmoked Wiltshire cured bacon and gammons, plus pork & apple, pork & chilli, lamb and mint, Dexter burgers and now our own meatballs made for us by The Bowler of London street food fame. We also have Black Welsh Mountain lamb & mutton reared and supplied by our neighbour and of course our 24-7 free range eggs which are available from the honesty box outside shop hours.
Chutneys, cakes and candlesticks…
From our original list of produce which was essentially home reared meat, cake & chutney, we now stock over 40 different lines of accompaniments and gifts alongside our meats including cards and candlesticks, local honey, fresh bread, brownies, meringues, local cheese, conserves, jams, jellies, recipe books, veg, fresh free range eggs, blankets and pottery to name a few. We currently source as much of our produce as we can from within 5 miles of the shop – this is difficult but there is an amazing talent of creative and productive people on our doorstep.
And from the smallest Blue Tinners… farmyard manure
We can’t omit to mention the line of produce which is only available fresh from on the farm we think! The small Blue Tinners are doing a roaring trade in bags of well rotted farmyard manure for allotments and the garden.
Always available in season from outside the shop but please do order ahead for large quantities.
We also have a kitchen garden in front of the shop in which our Indian Runner ducks and bantams spend the winter clearing all and any slugs ready for spring planting. All our poultry are for eggs only and our free range chickens hang out with oodles of space in the front apple orchard. With seasonal homegrown veg supplying the shop and a superb English veg supplier in between times we offer veg boxes to accompany our meats so you can actually pick up a full roast dinner – uncooked of course! We also press our apples for the appliest, freshest juice around. Add to that the ready to eat goodies from our little deli counter and there’s lunch right there.
So follow those little signs in the hedges either up the hill or down the lane to this stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, park up, visit us in the shop, buy your roasts/steaks/sausage rolls or cakes, walk the surrounding footpaths and collect your purchases on your return.
